LOOKING BACK
Before there was an us.
Begin with deep time. Consider the long story that precedes our own, and the origins of the world we inhabit.
Our chosen starting point does not mark the beginning of Earth or the universe.
THE INSTITUTE / A UNIVERSE OF INQUIRY
From 4.2 billion years ago to 4.2 billion years ahead. An invitation to explore our origins, inhabit the present, and imagine what comes next.
Explore the universe ↓00 / THE CELESTIAL ATLAS
Choose a point of light. Follow a question from matter to meaning, from ancient skies to possible worlds.
CONCEPTUAL STAR MAP / NOT A NAVIGATION CHART
I / MATTER
Atoms, stars, worlds. Begin with the physical ingredients and the processes that shape them.
Enter the observatory ↗01 / THE LONG VIEW
Three perspectives. One shared timeline.

02 / THE OBSERVATORY
Symbols become useful when we can ask what they mean. Explore light, energy, and the lives of stars.
EXPERIMENT 01 / LIGHT
In a vacuum, light’s speed equals its wavelength multiplied by its frequency. Shorter wavelengths correspond to higher frequencies.
Wave spacing and screen colors are illustrative. Calculations use c = 299,792,458 m/s and E = hν. Visible boundaries vary by convention and observer.

Gravity draws gas and dust together. A protostar forms inside a collapsing cloud.
A simplified path for a Sun-like star. Massive stars follow different paths; sizes and durations are not to scale.
READ / NASA · The lives of stars ↗03 / UNDER AN ANCIENT SKY
Long before telescopes, people gave the sky stories, forms, and sacred meaning. Enter a small gallery inspired by ancient Egyptian cosmology.
NUT / SKY GODDESS
Nut was an ancient Egyptian sky goddess. Her arched form offers a powerful image of the heavens stretching over the world.
A contemporary question: what changes when we imagine the sky as something that shelters us?
Explore the historical source ↗The illustrations are contemporary designs inspired by historical motifs, not reproductions or hieroglyphic translations. Religious symbolism is presented in its cultural context; the connections to the institute’s vision are creative interpretations.
04 / THE POSSIBILITY ARCHIVE
Three speculative lenses. Choose a horizon and consider what responsibility might look like at that scale.
A THOUGHT EXPERIMENT
Imagine someone opening an archive a century from now. What would you want them to find: knowledge, living ecosystems, ways to care for one another?
These passages are imaginative prompts, not forecasts, commitments, or descriptions of existing institute programs.
CULTURAL HORIZONS / ECUADOR & GALICIA
Clay and feathers. Stone and water. A gallery of distinct traditions, brought into conversation through memory, creativity, and possibility.
VALDIVIA / COASTAL ECUADOR
Ancient Valdivia artists on Ecuador’s southwest coast made small ceramic human figures. Their stylized forms and carefully rendered hair offer a vivid encounter with the people and creative lives of a distant past.
These objects are archaeological evidence, not illustrations of a single surviving myth. Their original meanings remain debated; a fertility interpretation should not be treated as settled.
What might the things we create reveal about how we value human life?
Ecuador’s many cultures and Galicia’s varied traditions each have their own histories. These are selected examples, not a single shared mythology. Illustrations and reflection questions are contemporary creations; resemblance does not establish historical contact. Folklore is presented as storytelling, without claims of medical power.
THE UNSEEN / SYMBOL · MYTH · MYSTERY
Moonlit thresholds, hidden worlds, and the art of transformation. Enter an imaginative chamber where the supernatural and the occult become languages for wonder.
A contemporary scene: a silver path, a quiet shoreline, a door left slightly open. In this imagined landscape, the threshold is a place to pause between the familiar and the possible.
What possibility would you like to make room for?
Alchemy’s history joins the transformation of materials with rich artistic and philosophical imagery. Here, the vessel and the circle offer a creative metaphor for patient change and the making of something new.
Explore Getty’s Art of Alchemy ↗The Galician mouro and moura stories already in Cultural Horizons offer an entrance into supernatural folklore: places with hidden histories, mysterious inhabitants, and imagined treasure.
Return to the cultural stories ↗A SMALL BOOK OF POSSIBILITIES
Three original, tarot-inspired reflection cards. Open one to discover its prompt.
What small source of wonder would you like to follow?
What could you explore without needing an answer yet?
What would you like to nurture into a new form?
These original cards offer creative prompts, rather than predictions. Tarot began as a European card game; its occult and divinatory associations developed later. The symbols here belong to distinct histories and contemporary art, and carry no claims of supernatural or medical efficacy. Read the V&A history of tarot ↗
THE PRESENT IS A PLACE TO BEGIN
Look backward with curiosity.
Look around with care.
Look forward with imagination.
05 / THE INSTITUTE
This first experience brings the institute’s vision into a journey through past, present, and future.
Florida nonprofit incorporation does not by itself establish federal tax-exempt status. Future passages are imaginative explorations, not predictions.
